"Red Spinny Dress"

Red Spinny Dress won third place in the 2023 Bucks County Short Story Competition. The story is available to read online at BCCC – English Dept, or  you can send me a request for a copy.

Red Spinny Dress is a love story between two men who have been together for five decades and now one is dying. It’s  told from the perspective of the caregiver who describes their loving relationship which was verbalized in Jeffrey Osbornes’s classic ballad: “Greatest Love Affair”.

Red Spinny Dress is a story of how one man’s Halloween costume, a red dress that flared out like an umbrella when he spun, brought him such joy. Only slow dancing with his husband to ‘their’ song, ranked higher. The last thing the two men did was to slow dance, one man in an old tux, the other in the red dress, to “Greatest Love Affair”.
