11. Blue is not blue

Making a better blue:

There is no true blue, but there are millions of blues. If you’re a painter, you may have a dozen or more blues. And that would be a lot. Logistically, how do you put a dozen blues on the palette and still have room for a few reds, yellows, greens, white, etc.?

You might think that a dozen blues are enough, but you’d be wrong. Even mixing several blues together might not make the right blue. Sometimes, to make a better blue you need to add a touch of red. Mixing red and blue together doesn’t always make purple, sometimes red and blue make an amazing blue, sometimes the perfect blue.

Adding a bit of red to blue can make a richer, warmer blue. Likewise, adding a bit of blue to red might make your red redder. And you can still mix blues and reds to create beautiful purples.

The point – things, life even, are not a simple blue. More than likely, it’s a mish-mash of all kinds of things.
