I entered a story story into the 2023 Bucks County Community College Short Story Competition. The story is called “Spinny Red Dress” and is about the last days of one man who wants to dance one last time with his husband.
It might sound like a sad story but I think it is also a moving story. It’s really a love story based around the Jeffrey Osbourne song titled: “Greatest Love Affair” and a Halloween Costume that was worn more than once.
The Story was originally written a few years ago and was the start of a novel that is in rough draft. The reason the novel-length work never got finished might be because everything after the first part didn’t live up to the beginning. So maybe it was meant to be a short story after all. If the story isn’t selected as a winner, I’ll make another go at finishing the novel-length story.
Entries were due on Oct. 19 but the website does not list when the winners will be announced. This will be my second attempt at this context. Wish me luck.
