14. Can you kill someone too many times?

Can you kill someone too often?

How many times can you almost kill off the main character before it is too many? Can one person be so prone to disaster and yet still be the star of the story?

This is the first series I’ve written so it’s all-new, and might I say, quite fun. I’ve read (more likely listened to the audiobook) several books that have multiple volumes. Harry Potter had 7, Stephanie Plumb had 27, and The Cat Who… Series, featuring Coco and Yum Yum had 29. But those were all complete novels, with a time span of weeks or months or a year even.

In a short series like The Cat Who Saved Rehoboth that I am working on this year, each episode seems to be days or weeks long at most. So the question is, can the main character get shot at, beat up, arrested, bombed, and who knows what else, with only a few weeks at best between disasters?

It’s not like the disasters are unrelated, there is a singular evil force in the city that the new mayor needs to battle and conquer. And so far, he’s survived three events, (one was just being embarrassed in public). Two were quite physical and only 4 weeks apart. Too much?

I’m going to keep on with the current plan. Anything can be fixed in the editing – well, almost anything.

Hey, I have to stop this post now, the mayor is just about to get mugged – he needs me.
