Working with a professional editor is mind-boggling.
I just finished the editing process of “Beach Misses” with the editor of Cat & Mouse Press. It boggles my mind how many grammar errors there were. I was never an English major, and never a good Reader, but this was embarrassing – and confusing. I ran the story through 2 spell-check programs, had the story read back to me, and ran the story through the Grammarly app. Still, there were probably twenty-five or so mistakes! I seriously thought there would be none.
That said, I’ve been told (by the editor) that authors are not fond of the editing process. That’s crazy, Nancy, my editor is wonderful. She helps make my story so much more cohesive.
In the bio I sent along with the story, I put a hint there about my hope that the story comes true. To that end, I just finished the first revision to all the stories I hope to include in a book of shorts – that didn’t make it in one of the Rehoboth Beach Reads Short Story Contests. Click here if you want to find out more about the project.
The goal is to have all the stories finalized by Thanksgiving and approach Cat & Mouse Press with a proposal to publish by end of the year. Then, I start the first revision of The Cat Who Saved Rehoboth. It needs a major overhaul to make it cohesive and flow. A lot of work, but I think worth it. The goal would be to show it to C&M in the spring before she’s busy with the next contest anthology.
