27. Beach Misses – The Book

The short story called “Beach Misses”, published in Beach Secrets by Cat & Mouse Press, is a story about an author who wrote multiple stories for local anthologies that were not accepted. The author decided to self-publish the stories in a series and his book took off. The idea is a secret wish of mine and may become a reality someday. 

Over the last 6 years, I’ve written around thirty stories for the annual Cat & Mouse Press anthologies called the Rehoboth Beach Reads series. Several were accepted and published, several were downright terrible, but others were good. A few very well may have been some of my best works, just not what the judges were looking for that year.

So, I picked fifteen stories, gave each a complete ‘revise and rewrite’, asked my beta readers to give them a read, and then approached the Publisher of Cat & Mouse Press with a proposal to publish the book. Unfortunately, her business model didn’t fit individually authored books.

But that doesn’t mean I can’t self-publish. 

Self-publishing means a bit more work. I’ll need to hire an editor, a copy editor, and find a book printer. I don’t think this is the type of book that would make sense to publish as an e-book only, it’s more of a beach read. So when I finish my current project, I will get back to this and see if it makes sense to self-publish.

But I will need to change the title of the book – Cat & Mouse Press’ Beach Read series all started with the word “Beach” and I don’t want to infringe on that franchise.
