Judges Award
I’m proud to announce that the story, originally titled ‘Every Holiday’, has been accepted into this year’s Rehoboth Reads anthology competition called Beach Holidays.
The story is a tale of two 9th graders who, with the help of a cat hopping up on the keyboard, start a series of special holidays in Rehoboth including, parents do you homework day, a free second scoop of ice cream day, free sausage on you pizza day and many more. Wyatt was showing off to his buddy Asher how his dad inadvertently gave him access to a government computer. So Wyatt typed out a note to the Rehoboth Beach mayor about a special holiday where parents needed to do the homework for their kids that weekend. Before he could delete the message, the family cat hopped up and stepped on the send button. The next thing they knew, the mayor was on TV making the odd announcement.
Without being found out, the two boys did it again the following week, this time getting all the ice cream shops in town to give away a second scoop of ice cream. As they continued to make up Monday holidays, many of the business owners were getting upset – this was costing them money. A few weeks later, as the mayor announced free sausage on pizza day, Wyatt’s dad figured it out, and the two boys were marched into the Mayor’s office to apologize, which came with a stiff punishment. But to the relief of the local businesses, the crazy Monday holidays ended just as fast as they had started.
What happened next, was quite a surprise, one that lead to the mayor getting cheese on his burger!
Thanks to Nancy, Publisher and Editor of Cat & Mouse Press. She edited the story, fixing all those misses and errors for me, and suggested the new title – Holiday Hijinks – which I quite like. The books will be available sometime in October or November. They will be available from the publisher’s website – Cat & Mouse Press or the local independent bookstore in Rehoboth Beach – BrowseAbout Books. Links below.
I hope you enjoy the story.
