23. Over or Under? Under

Over or Under?

After years of study, testing, and trying to refute the obvious choice, it’s official: UNDER.

When replacing the toilet paper roll, be sure that the end hangs down closest to the wall. And here’s why. Sometimes, after tearing off a sheet, the end sticks to the roll and is hard to find. What I do then is blow on it. A simple puff of air will loosen the end allowing it to fall for easy grabbing. And the tear is always close to the bottom – so you normally don’t even have to move the roll to blow on it.

If the end hangs off the front of the roll and the tear happens on the top of the roll and sticks, you have to either keep rubbing the roll to peel the end away or rotate the roll hoping the end comes away from the roll on its own.

So, always set the roll so the end hangs off the back, closest to the wall. And, just know this process of a short puff of air to move the end off the roll for easy grabbing, is the exact method that multi-million dollar high-speed printing presses use to separate sheets of paper so they only pull one sheet into the press at a time. Without that simple puff of air, those monster printing presses wouldn’t work!
