I ran across this website called Helping Writers Become Authors and found something I never heard of before. It’s probably well-known in the writing community, but I wasn’t an English major or ever studied writing. It sort of happened. Anyway, there are rules to writing a story, certain things are supposed to happen in specific places. Like the Hook needs to be right upfront, something my friend Ian Shearn told me years ago when I first started writing. His comment – throughout your first three chapters. He was right.
Anyway, I took a look at Meant To Be, the novel I’ve been pitching. Surprise, some of the parts are in the wrong places! Some are pretty far off. If this story structure is accurate then I need to rewrite the novel. So I’m going to stop all other projects and give Meant To Be a complete R&R – Revise and Rewrite. I’ll also try to get the word count down to 80,000.
